MalaLuna’s Maneuvers

Hello hello! My name is MalaLuna, but you can call me Mala. I am a 6-year-old Dutch Shepherd. My interests are my mom, my mom, and my mom. Mom says I am like velcro, but really we are just one entity and cannot be separated under any circumstance!

I found my forever home all by myself 6 years ago. When I was a puppy, my mom was a volunteer at an animal shelter and I fell in love with her. Determined that she was my real mom, I jumped in her car on my first day at the shelter and refused to leave so the nice ladies at the shelter said I could go home with her. When I first came home, I was very sick so Mom could not leave me for a moment and so from that day forward we became conjoined at the hip. I make it easy for her though, my very healthy obsession with Mom has made me very attentive and a great listener which in turn made it easy for Mom to take me with her EVERYWHERE

I wanted to share with all my fluffy friends my favorite places that I have been to with my mom and why so, here is a short list of our favorite endeavors in the past 6 amazing years. As always, be safe, stay fluffy, and leave no trace!

Lewis Mountain Campground - Shenandoah, VA

This beautiful campground is by far my favorite. Since we are a big fluffy family, this is ideal for us because it is relatively secluded compared to other Shenandoah campgrounds. It is also relatively close to where we live in Northern Virginia!

My favorite part is that there is rarely any signal, so Mom has no choice but to give me all of her attention. No working on this trip allowed! My mom is willing to put up with it because the campground is super close to Big Meadows where she can go, and take me if she really needs some bars.

The campground here is always so well maintained and big enough for me and my siblings to run around the campsite and sleep in every corner! Along with the endless miles of Appalachian trail, there is really no doubt this is my favorite place to be!

Redwood National Park - Redwood, CA

I know what you are thinking, that is FAR! Luckily, I love car rides and my mom loves driving, I think…
If you are willing and able to make the trek, Redwood National Park is the best place to be with your pup! My family loves to go camping here. we get to enjoy a nice long hike under the magnificent canopy of the sequoias before we get to our temporary tent home with absolute freedom.

The biggest downside for us was that I was not allowed on the non-gravel trails but we understood it was for my own safety because there are bears and other animals that I could hurt, or could hurt me.

Ocala National forest - Ocala, FL

Ocala National Forest is one of my favorite places to go year-round. While it does get colder than coastal Florida, the natural spring water stays the same temperature all year long! My mom loves to go for a swim here and I am allowed almost everywhere!
My favorite part of Ocala is the sandy trails! I love kicking sand and love the soft squishy feeling of walking on it. Mom says it is more work, but she needs the workout! Mom will often kick off her shoes on some of the sandy trails on longer hikes. She says she loves the feeling of sand on her feet, but I think it’s just because it makes walking on sand a bit easier.
